Seido Karate Northern Suburbs commenced operation on the 12th June 2010 and since then we have worked with dozens of people from all walks of life to help develop their physical and mental abilities in a proven discipline that goes back centuries. We have been fortunate enough to assist young children to become excellent examples of young adults in the community as well as give senior adults an opportunity to benefit by increased fitness and durability. Seido Karate is for everyone!!
At Seido Karate, your instructors have over 15 years experience in teaching in a professional yet a fun and safe family environment. We have a strong desire to help others learn and create a great environment for learning and creating new friendships. Being a member of the World Seido Karate Organisation means you’ll belong to a legitimate, worldwide structured organisation that has strict standards and a syllabus developed by one of the world’s best Karate exponents; Kaicho Tadashi Nakmura.

Senpai Mark & Senpai Gene
INSTRUCTORS
In 1985, Gene (father) & Senpai Mark Cortese (son) began training at Seido Karate Geelong under the-then Sensei Mervyn Nelis as a 36 year old and a 9 year old. Both Gene and Mark trained together there five years before work commitments moved the family interstate and overseas. While interstate and overseas, they both trained in other martial arts including Taekwondo.
In 2005, Gene and Senpai Mark rejoined Seido Karate in Melbourne, and later achieving their 1st Dan black belt (shodan) in 2008.
In 2010, Senpai Gene and Senpai Mark established the Seido Karate Bundoora branch, while continuing their training at other Seido Karate dojos.
Both instructors regularly attend karate workshops, seminars and Seido Karate Annual Camps while continuing to train and learn under Senior instructors at the Richmond and Geelong dojos.
“We are both deeply committed to promoting the Seido values and principles developed and evolved under Grand Master Tadashi Nakamura to create an environment where any student of any age or gender can train in safe environment and learn in an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation of other students”.
Recently graded to the rank of 4th Dan (Sensei) they look forward to continuing to train and instruct Seido karate into the future.
